The PCTGEN database contains information on nucleic acid and protein sequences from patent applications submitted to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as of August 2001 by patent applicants. Each record includes the sequence data as submitted by the patent applicant, and additional information such as molecule type and organism as well as patent-related data e.g., application and publication dates. Several options are available for sequence searching, among them direct sequence searching using the Sequence Code Match (SCM), and homology searching using the FASTA algorithm-based GETSIM function or the BLAST algorithm.
